Man in Long An jailed for five years for abusing rights to freedom, democracy
LONG AN A 九0-year-old man has been jailed for five years for “abusing the rights to freedom and democracy to violate interests of the State, rights and legitimate interests of organisations and individuals”.
Lê Tùng Vân was sentenced on Thursday at the People's Court of Đức Hoà District in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.
Accomplices Lê Thanh Hoàn Nguyên, 三 二; Lê Thanh Nhất Nguyên, 三 一; and Lê Thanh Trùng Dương, 二 七, were each jailed for four years.
Lê Thanh Nhị Nguyên, 二 四; and Cao Thị Cúc, 六 二, were sentenced to three years and six months, and three years in prison, respectively.
The case centres around a family Buddhist worship place named “Tịnh thất bồng lai".
According to the indictment, between 二0 一 九 and 二0 二 一, the defendants published five video clips and an article on social networks, which contain distorted information aiming to defame Đức Hoà District’s police and insult Buddhism and other individuals.
The whereabouts of one remaining defendant, Lê Thu Vân, are unknown. VNS
